The new middle school project is part of the Liscate school complex, which used to house only the primary school building.

(150 students) – Liscate (Milan), Design: 2018

Responding to the students’ educational needs while integrating spaces for the local community was the main objective of the project. The new structure thus becomes an exchange and meeting point for all citizens; an accessible and flexible multifunctional space in which the new generations are the first to cultivate activities with a community vocation.
Simple forms and a clear composition characterise both the teaching areas and those open to the public, appropriately separated, allowing maximum usability and ease of orientation. The design concept is based on the union of two volumes with a square base, different in terms of final use and size, connected vertically and horizontally.
The largest building houses the classrooms and rooms used only by the school; the second one, with a more public vocation, contains an auditorium for 144 spectators and a multi-purpose room, both available to students and citizens. The use of natural materials is common to all the teaching spaces, reinforcing the relationship between man-made space and natural space.

With spaces for both school and extracurricular activities, the school opens up to the city, becoming the centre of the students' and their families' living environment, the place of their socio-cultural experience.
