NUOVO OSPEDALE GALLIERA DI GENOVA
Healthcare Architecture
(Bed capacity: 404) – Genoa, 2020

Designed entirely with BIM on a “people-friendly” basis, it will be the regional reference point for the management of ageing and physical weakness. It will be enlarged with the addition of 70,230 sqm to the existing structure, for a total of 404 beds and an investment of over 110 million euro.
The building will have 7 floors, 3 of which will be external, and 5,500 sqm of roof garden. The hospital will be built on a site overlooking the sea and characterised by a complex orography. This has led to a “customised” design of the new hospital and its landscape context in order to ensure an effective and harmonious integration.
The project is divided in two parts: a semi-hypogeous part, which organically follows the irregular dimension of the lot, and an epigean part which takes up the regular dimension of the urban scale defined by the surrounding buildings. The design of the green spaces was inspired by the possibility of improving the area in terms of vegetation, and the garden becomes the element of organic connection between the Nuovo Ospedale Galliera and the Carigliano neighbourhood.

A new structure that will house over 400 beds, conceived as a 'Green' and 'Lean' hospital with high energy efficiency, maintaining its current character of a hospital of national importance and high specialisation (to cure, to care).
