OSPEDALE MAGGIORE POLICLINICO MANGIAGALLI E REGINA ELENA
Healthcare Architecture
(Bed capacity: 1,000) – Milan, 2019 – 2021

The Nuovo Policlinico will be a hospital open and accessible not only to patients and their families, but to the whole city. In the heart of Milan, there will be dedicated treatment paths as well as places designed for relaxation and everyday life. Among the strengths of the Nuovo Policlinico, which will be the largest and most modern hospital in the heart of the city, are the construction of a pedestrian gallery with services and shops, and an elevated park, which will be a ‘green lung’ as large as the Duomo of Milan.
Tecnicaer was involved in the BIM final proposals and construction design, with level of detail LOD E of all disciplines, integrating the more than 200 improvements developed in the tender and reselling the 3,150 drawings of the old final proposals for the Policlinico di Milano drafted by Techint and Studio Boeri. The construction aspects, materials and systems components have been improved, favouring innovative, mainly prefabricated solutions aimed at fostering integration between systems, improving the internal safety for users and the building’s energy behaviour, and increasing the quality of the various internal and external finishes.
The proposed solutions are advanced not only from the technical and engineering point of view, but also from the medical one, in terms of patient management in emergency and urgent conditions, also thanks to the increased flexibility and adaptability of some internal areas.

The structure will consist of two 7-storey blocks (including the ground floor) connected by a 3-storey central block, all with access to two underground levels.
