A hospital that combines the necessary functional, distribution and technological innovation with the fundamental added value of human, civic, urban and social value.
NUOVO OSPEDALE DEI BAMBINI VITTORE BUZZI
NEW BUILDING AND UPGRADING INTERVENTION
Healthcare Architecture
(Bed capacity: 73) – Milan, 2018

The project took into account the patients’ vulnerability and aimed to create an environment where children can have positive experiences while in hospital.
The healing garden is an integral part of the system’s strong presence in the green area, it’s an outdoor space to promote and improve the children’s health and well-being. Its advantages can be enjoyed through passive experiences (looking at or being in a garden) or active involvement (gardening, rehabilitation therapy and other activities).
The roof level is dedicated to the healing garden, accessible through a “sensory ramp” furnished with herbs, connected to the library and the toy library. In the entrance hall, interactive elements allow the young patients to experience the moment of waiting.

The creation of spaces which assure both the functionality of services and the users’ comfort contributes to the psychophysical improvement of the patient’s well-being, placing it at the centre of the architectural and engineering interventions.
